Banning Chamber column
As noted By Gail Paparian CABAM on the MoveThe July meeting of CABAM was lively and enthusiastic. I had taken some pictures on a recent trip to Solana Beach and shared them with the group. Cedros Avenue in Solana Beach was a dump! A couple of forward thinking merchants decided if they cleaned up the street and made it inviting for people to come... they would. And they have been coming for years. All it took was a couple of dedicated business people to start the process, then others joined in. This once miserable looking street is now known as the “South Cedros Design Center,”is well visited by people from all over San Diego County. An interesting note is that there was no particular design element applied. Actually, the eclectic mixes of paint, stucco and landscaping add to the overall individuality of the area. This leads me to believe that no matter what the results of the Charette may bring forward, doing something to enhance Banning’s appearance can only serve as a bonus. A few people have requested that CABAM hold a meeting in the evening. To that end, the August 12th meeting will be held at 6 pm at Gary Carlton’s Patio Concepts. The good news is, we hear from the city that the ten new trash receptacles have been ordered and paid for and should be arriving toward the end of August. The Chamber will be appointing an art and design review committee. Hopefully, we will be able to enhance these trash bins as has been done successfully in other cities. Gary Carlton is ordering CABAM tee shirts. He will be donating them to those who want to work on an event so that we may make a positive impact. More good news to follow.
