Demonstration Gardens
Even people normally divided by politics agree that water conservation is a necessity. "Water wars" in California historic and fierce. The wars will continue until people realize that changing lifestyles must include better water resource management.
Every so often government entities go an extra mile to do something outstanding. A case and point is the Western Municipal Water District's demonstration gardens located in Riverside, CA. I attended an event there recently and was inspired by the thought that went into producing something beautiful. In the Coachella Valley (Palm Springs, CA) area, between 70-80% of water usage is outside.
Here's a photo example of forward-thinking water usage and nature's choices. Invaluable information is available on the Water District's site WMWD.com. Here are my pictures. Please enjoy, and if you are involved in your city's planning, please take the opportunity to think about what could be done in your community.
