Texting and driving is deadly PDF Print E-mail

It may take a village for some but it took mega-billionaire and TV icon Oprah Winfrey to get behind No Phone Zone Pledge.   Some brilliant state and federal minds wrote legislation outlawing talking on a cell phone operating a potential murder weapon, a/k/a a vehicle.  Brilliant! What they neglected to do was outlaw TEXTING while driving……. DUH!

I am young enough to covet and appreciate technology as it is created, almost on a daily basis. I am old enough to realize when an action is just plain stupid! Short of the 10 Commandments, which have already been written, NOTHING is worth putting your own or some innocent body’s life in jeopardy because sending a text message was more important than keeping both kinds and one’s eyes on the road.

Social networking has gone too far when immediate social gratification could kill you, someone you love or an innocent stranger. Why not wait until you get there and there's actually something to talk about!

You happen to be correct. When do you think regular people will get it?

Thanks, Donna-

Now if we could get legislators to BAN texting while driving.... shouldn't that be a NO-BRAINER???

A legisltor's frame of mind: It is not politically correct to prevent people from doing something they are going to do anyway. When are they going to wake up?! Perhaps when one of their close friends is killed?

I agree. a fellow Banningite was killed a few months ago by a young girl who was texting. She is now doing 10 years in the slammer. What a way to spend her 20's just because texting was more important than looking where she was going. Too too bad for her and way bad for the guy who died.
