Sun Lakes Water Meeting - Politeness Counts PDF Print E-mail

Politeness Matters
For any Sun Lakes residents who don’t already know, there will be a meeting in the main clubhouse on Thursday, August 5th at 6 pm. It would make sense for all those who are concerned about where our water bills could go (that’s our individual rates AND our share of what the HOA will have to fork out.) It is my understanding the Banning staff will speak and residents will get to respond.
It has been my experience when one is trying to curry favor, the results are more positive if one “asks” for something rather than bellows it throughout the main clubhouse.
For those of you with short memories, the reception offered former Banning city staffers during a public meeting about whether an auto mall would be located across the street resembled a lynching  … there was nothing friendly about it. The people who shouted accomplished nothing save being branded as rude and ignorant. FYI- the shouting did not kill the plan; the economy did.
Like many of my friends and colleagues in Sun Lakes, I too live on a “limited fixed income.” What that means is, if bills go up substantially, I am forced to eliminate something else.  I rue the day that I might have to decide between by medications and my utilities.
Please be informed and act accordingly.
This “blog” is intended to be a platform for discussion, opinions, venting and progress.
Please go to: http://www.writingsolutions.com. Once there, click on this link:
You will be able to read this full text (I have made it available in this email AND on the blog). The value of you going to the blog is you have the opportunity to “opine.”
Thank you for caring about our future.

This is an election year. How do we get honest answers?

Tonight's meeting will be informative and critical to our 2011 Sun Lakes budget. I encourage anyone who is concerned (and we all should be) to come and listen, take notes, ask questions and above all be respectful and courteous. Sun Lakers are wonderful, intelligent, concerned residents and I know will act accordingly.

Because the City of Banning is way behind their recycled water; it should have gone in when Sun Lakes was built; why don't they bite the bullet and update their water plant.

Isn't that why the borrowed the money in the first place? Or did they just want to build a police station and let the rest of the town suffer?

Gail,
All Banning residents should listen to your advice. When there is anger in a presenters voice and it becomes evident that personal attacks are being made the message is diluted at best and at worst doesn't come across at all. I would hope that with an election season fast approaching the public will try the sane approach to democracy and present themselves in a manner that the listener will appreciate and the presenter can ultimately be proud of. Other wise the decision maker ultimately becomes the victim and the point is lost...
